Philip G. Spender is the president and CEO of AutoAlliance International, Inc., a Ford Motor Company and Mazda Corporation Joint Venture, located in Flat Rock, Michigan. He assumed this position on Oct. 1, 2001.

Previously, he was president, Ford India for three years at which time he oversaw the successful launch of the start up operation and the Ford Ikon vehicle.

Spender joined Ford New Zealand in 1975, beginning his career as a product engineer. He held various engineering, manufacturing and business planning positions of increasing responsibility.

He managed the launch of the first Mazda-Ford joint product programs. He was also Manufacturing Planning manager during the formation of Vehicle Assemblers, New Zealand, a Mazda-Ford joint venture.

In 1985, Spender joined Ford Australia, serving as plant manager of Plastics Operations, Stamping Operations and the Broadmeadows Assembly Plant.

Spender holds a New Zealand Certificate of Engineering, completed the Advanced Management Program a Melbourne University's Graduate School of Management and has an Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy in Business Management.
